Inspired by a photograph, this Mermaid’s Tale evokes the imagery of ancient fados and bizarre narratives filled with drama and eroticism. There is, between chaos and beauty, something of an abyss that reveals our most intimate dreams and yearnings.
From the repertoire of Celeste Rodrigues and written by Joaquim Frederico de Brito, this recreation is a well-deserved tribute to two much beloved names of Fado and Portuguese culture. A humorous composition full of subtlety and feminine charm.

Balada de um Amanhecer
Words and music: Marta Rosa and Diogo de Castro Ferreira ·
The story of this song is also that of one of those nights when complicity and music transcend being and understanding. The words and the melody came as if by magic, in an intense and unexpected moment of pure improvisation, and so, at first light, this Ballad of a Dawn was born.

The story
A prize that became a record
Recorded in 2020 at Primetime Estúdios, in Algés, as the prize of the O Meu Fado 2019 competition, which Marta Rosa won with her lyric for “Lenda da Sereia”. The competition was an initiative of Rádio SIM in partnership with the Museu do Fado, with the support of SPA and of Universal Music Portugal, which recorded the EP and released it digitally in September 2020.
Six years on, it comes out on CD: an artist’s own edition, published by Onofriana under licence from Universal Music Portugal, in 500 hand-numbered copies.
