Curation, production and programming of fado events.

I am Onofriana.

I was born of a name that History all but let fall into silence.

Maria Severa Onofriana was the first voice that fado recognised as its own. Severa, the name that myth glorified. Onofriana, more overlooked, more intimate, recalls part of a story that remains to be unveiled.

That is the name I give to the world.

I want to go wherever fado is listened to and appreciated, not as background, distraction or curiosity, but as a living cultural presence, with pulse and memory.

I — About Onofriana

Fado curation, production and programming.

Onofriana is devoted to the curation, production and programming of fado events in cultural, institutional and private settings. Its name is inspired by the mythical and mysterious figure of Maria Severa Onofriana, the first documented fado singer in the history of the genre.

We work with a wide network of experienced professionals, fado singers and instrumentalists, to form different ensembles suited to each setting: intimate acoustic sessions, stages, traditional and themed fado nights, performances for schools, theatres and auditoriums, local festivities, etc.

What sets us apart is quality, and the programming we offer: from all-female fado ensembles to bespoke fado lyrics, written exclusively to celebrate special people or occasions.

Marta Rosa

Onofriana’s artistic curation is in the hands of Marta Rosa, fado singer, viola de fado player, lyricist and composer. A graduate in Musicology from NOVA University Lisbon and in Voice from the Lisbon School of Music of the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon, she has built her path between fado houses and other stages, between creation and artistic direction. She is one of the few women to play the viola de fado professionally.

She was responsible for curation and programming at the restaurant Povo Lisboa, one of the city’s landmark cultural venues and home to numerous artistic residencies that shaped the careers of several fado voices, her own among them. She was a founding member of the fado group As Mariquinhas, made up exclusively of women.

We create a programme tailored to your event. Intimate acoustic sessions, special celebrations, birthdays, weddings, corporate events, fado nights, concerts, themed series for schools, stages, theatres, auditoriums, local festivities, etc.
Does Onofriana work exclusively with fado?
Yes. Our focus is fado in a cultural setting, where we can include programmes that bring in poetry (sung and recited), theatre (staged fado pieces) and interactive sessions for schools.
Can I book Onofriana for a private event?
Yes. We offer a range of formats and solutions. Each performance is carefully tailored to your venue, the audience and the setting.
Which artists does Onofriana work with?
We work with a wide network of experienced professionals, well recognised on the circuit, to ensure the highest artistic quality.

How long is a fado performance?
It depends on the format. From short sets of 20 to 45 minutes to performances of 60 to 90 minutes with an interval, through to tailored formats. Longer programmes may include breaks or several musical moments.
How much does it cost to book a fado event?
It varies with the number of artists, the length of the performance, the location, technical requirements, etc. Each quote is tailor-made.
Does Onofriana work with international audiences?
Yes. We have experience with audiences from abroad. We can give brief introductions in English, French and Spanish, set fado in its cultural and historical context, and offer more accessible and interactive formats.
What sets Onofriana apart and makes it so special?
To work with a living legacy, one in constant transformation, is to be part of an unfinished story with deep roots, marked by the strong female heritage that carved paths out into the world — ever since the first fado singer.
